SHIFT
In the Mirror of Uncertainty
September 15 – November 11
Opening: September 14, 2006; 5-10 pm
Open: Tue-Fri 12-6 pm, Sat 11-4 pm

In the age of the new media the borders between fiction and fact, simulation and reality, original and copy, art and life, culture and nature, are becoming ever more blurred.
The SHIFT exhibition is intended to examine artistic positions concerned with such contradictions and irritations. On display will be works that deliber-ately avoid a single interpretation or reading, through strategies such as optical illusion and con-textual translocation or play between construc-tion/deconstruction, alienation,
metamorphosis and manipulation.
SHIFT is concerned with the perception of the viewer and the tension of navigating the shifting borders in contemporary art. But the works have also been so selected that their content may pro-voke a theoretical discourse and debate address-ing the wider social/political issues and not merely the formal aspects of the works.
